Many happy returns of 22nd Love From Will

Dear Emmie We were moving all day yesterday and I didn’t get a chance to write. I think this address will find me. We had a route march from 8 o’cl last night till 1.30 this morning and a lot of the boys fell out. Will write a letter as soon as poss. We slept in a field last night and it wasn’t bad either. My face is better now. Think I will have the tooth out. Please write soon Best Love From Will xx

Dear Emmie We have all been posted to different batts: I am in the 9th Suss: now but still I do not know my address. We are moving tomorrow and then I hope to let you know what it is. C.Gibbs is now in the Royal W.Kents so I have a new friend now; a Bert this time. All the old band boys are separated now the first time in 11 months. Will try to write a letter by tomorrow. With Love From Will x

Dear Emmie We arrived in Folkestone about 3.30 o’cl. this morning and were travelling since 8 o’cl last night. We were officially warned for draught yesterday morning. What was left of the band, played us to the station through the rain. The spirit of the boys was very good and they were very orderly. We stopped at Liverpool St station and some of the boys people were there. You will find out where I am when I put W.R.M. on top of my letters with a slight break in of the letters of the following words. Write letter as soon as poss. Love From Will

Dear Emmie Thanks for letter + paper. I am glad I did not put you out last week. I hope to get my pass any time this week. There is a lot of “wind up” here about the German offensive; to look at things straight it means us going out soon. I am not pessimistic about it though. I am going to find out about my leave now hoping to see you soon. Love From Will

Dear Emmie Thanks for paper and letter received this evening; it has taken two days to come. I have had a very hard day today and do not feel like writing a letter so will answer yours tomorrow. Hope you are quite well, Best Love From Will x
